Case Study

Dorset County Council

This evaluation explored the impact of the counties ‘Inspired by 2012 Health and Wellbeing Legacy Fund’ a grant-funding programme coordinated by Dorset County Council, on behalf of Bournemouth and Poole and Dorset Health and Wellbeing Boards.

The programme utilised £744,000 from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic contingency funds to invest in supporting 56 innovative, community driven health and wellbeing projects, investing in projects that focus on the particularly vulnerable, marginalised and deprived communities.

This independent evaluation analysed all documents relating to the fund; surveyed all grant recipients; and interviewed selected recipients and stakeholders. The evaluation set out to explore the reach and impact of the legacy fund and identify the key learnings.

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Trust

Progress Health Partnerships worked with Cavill Associates to evaluate the impact of the Macmillan Cancer Transformation Pathways.

The purpose of this evaluation was to understand the effectiveness of the range of services offered by UHDB Cancer Improvement Team, relating to the aftercare pathways for patients recovering from or living with cancer.

The process evaluation methodology made use of quantitative and qualitative data, adopting a mixed methods approach to data collection, through existing project level data, and surveys, interviews and focus groups with stakeholders and patients. The evaluation found that the Macmillan funding of the Cancer Care Improvement Team has clearly helped a stratified care pathway to be developed that has significantly improved quality of life for people living with and recovering from cancer

Healthy Early Years London

The Mayor’s Healthy Early Years London awards programme is targeted at London’s 13,000+ childcare settings with the aim of tackling health inequalities across the city at the earliest opportunity in a child’s life.

The evaluation assessed the contribution that the programme makes to improving health, wellbeing and child development and to reducing health inequalities among children, aged under five, in London’s Healthy Early Years settings (including childminders), making recommendations for improvements to the ongoing programme for taking to scale across London.

The evaluation combined surveys of stakeholders and early years settings; one-to-one interviews and focus groups; ethnographic visits to settings; analysis of existing routine data.

Sport Ireland: Get Ireland Running, Swimming and Cycling Projects

We carried out an independent process evaluation of the €315,000 programme. The evaluation explored issues such as fidelity to programme design; reach of the programme; exposure among targeted communities; project retention; participant satisfaction. This was through analysis of programme data; surveys of stakeholders; semi-structured interviews with stakeholders; and focus groups with participants.
